Accent Furniture uses a maintenance free, lacquer finish, which gives added protection to the wood. Our lacquer sealing process also protects the finish, requiring NO additional polish or oils. Other manufacturers do not use a lacquer seal to protect the wood, thereby allowing water rings to occur, fading the finish and causing possible stain bleed onto the carpeted surface below the furniture.
Accent Furniture uses an oil based stain which stays clear allowing the wood grain to shine through and gives a smoother "satin-like" feel to the wood. Other manufacturers use a water based stain which raises the grain, has a rougher feel and can give a cloudy appearance to the wood.
Accent constructs its furniture and case goods with solid wood doors and drawer fronts, trim and corners, which gives a cleaner appearance that translates into solid value. Other manufacturers use paper or wood veneers over particle board. Be sure to check out "Ask the Experts" in order to determine what quality features to look for when purchasing new furniture.
Accent Furniture uses only Plane Sliced Oak Veneers, which gives a more natural "Cathedral" effect to the grains, which is more consistent with natural wood. Other manufacturers use rotary cut veneers, which gives a jagged appearance not found in natural wood grains, as if it were cut with a pencil sharpener.
All Accent Furniture uses Solid Wood inset backs that are pinned and glued in place. This makes for a sturdier case that ships and handles better while resisting damage. It also maintains the case goods' integrity by preventing racking. Other manufacturers simply staple 1/8" masonite to the back which adds no stability.
At Accent Furniture we use Solid Wood Interiors on all of our drawers And, unlike other manufacturers, we take the added time to sand and lacquer the interiors most of our drawers, which makes them "snag-proof" and gives a better appearance.
At Accent Furniture a thin piece of plywood is attached between each drawer of many of our collections, which in addition to preventing sawdust from falling into the drawer below, it provides more stability and structural integrity to the furniture, preventing racking. (Dustproofing is not a finish that makes dusting unnecessary, but rather a part of construction.) Other manufacturers only use corner blocks which do not give near as much support as dustproofing. And while Accent uses plywood as its dustproofing method, you may see anything from ply to cardboard used as the dustproofing method. Be sure to check out "Ask the Experts" where you can learn more about dustproofing and other features that will help you understand what to look for when shopping for quality furniture.
Many of the collections at Accent Furniture use Accuride-Style low profile ball-bearing glides, (with 20 ball bearings) which carry a lifetime warranty. They are not susceptible to warping or cracking and will assure you of drawers that open and close easily.
